Hi, I’m Steve
I’m a Person-Centred Therapist. I can work with you to help explore situations and feelings you are finding difficult and find the best way forward for you. There are no “one size fits all” approaches because the issues you bring to me will be unique to you.
By working together, I can help you understand your feelings and identify new ways to relate to them. I will never judge you and I will never place any expectations on you. The time we spend together is your time, and it is up to you what direction we take.

Family Issues
Read More
Family can be a complex area of life, with many people affecting us in numerous ways. Gaining clarity on the dynamics within the family can enable you to establish clearer boundaries and improve relations with your loved ones.
Serious or terminal illness
Read More
Serious and life-threatening illness can turn everything upside down. Talking to someone away from family and friends can be very beneficial because it allows you to express how you feel freely, without needing to protect those around you.
Addiction
Read More
Addiction can take many forms: alcohol, drugs, gambling, shopping or video games, the list goes on. If the negative consequences of a compulsion are outweighing the benefits, it may be time to explore things with someone.
Bereavement
Read More
Experiencing the death of a loved one is something we all have in common, yet we all process it in our own way and no two experiences are ever the same. It can feel like we should be doing “better,” or that we’ll never manage without them, or a thousand other things. Exploring what this loss means to you can be very beneficial.
Low confidence
Read More
Sometimes it feels like we’re driving through life with the handbrake on, wanting to do certain things but lacking the confidence to do them. Discovering why you may feel that way is often liberating and can open new doors in life.
Stress
Read More
Possibly our society’s greatest ‘achievement’ is the production of stress in our lives – finances, relationships and commitments of all kinds can leave us feeling irritable or frazzled. Finding outlets for this can really improve your quality of life.
Anger Issues
Read More
Anger itself is not a ‘bad’ thing, but it can be very destructive to yourself and those you care about. By exploring the underlying causes, I can help you control your anger and channel it in a more beneficial way.
Depression
Read More
Feeling down or low occasionally is a normal part of life. But when those feelings persist for long periods, they can have a negative impact on our wellbeing.
Depression can have many causes and show in different ways, but by exploring those feelings in a safe place I can help you find your way through.
Relationship issues
Read More
Difficulties with partners are never fun. By looking at the relationship and your place in it you may find new ways of communicating your needs and a deeper understanding of theirs.
Support for Carers
Read More
When someone is ill the focus may be on them, and often those caring for them are overlooked. But to help someone else as best we can we need to be taking care of ourselves too, especially where ongoing illness is a factor. I can help support you as you care for your loved one.
My Approach & Values
When you come to see me for the first time we will sit down with a cuppa and discuss what has brought you to counselling. This gives us both a chance to get a feel for each other and establish what areas we will be looking at going forward. We will talk about what benefits you are hoping to gain from our time together and possible ways of achieving them.
If you are happy to continue, we will establish the time and frequency of appointments going forward and go through how our relationship will work in a little more detail. After that we will begin exploring the issues you wish to address.
The thing to remember is that you are always in control of the process. It is always up to you what we talk about and how far we go with it. I will not judge you or criticise you in any way, and I will never tell you what to do.
I will always treat you with respect and consideration as we work together to reach the goals you have outlined.
“The human soul doesn’t want to be advised or fixed or saved. It simply wants to be witnessed — to be seen, heard, and companioned exactly as it is. “
Parker J Palmer – American author and activist
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
― Carl R. Rogers, On Becoming a Person
